Flow Public Beta 2 for Mac and Windows now available.
Give’s me great pleasure to announce that you can now get GridIron Flow public beta 2 for both Windows (XP/Vista) and Mac OS X.
If you already have the Mac beta - I highly recommend updating to Public Beta 2. We heard some fantastic feedback about scanning, performance, app support and other issues, and worked many fixes / tweaks into this release.
Windows users - you will note that the download is significantly larger (200MB) than the Mac version. Ironically, Flow is about the same size on both platforms (30MB). However, we also use a specific version of .NET from Microsoft (3.5.1), and feel it better to include what is needed rather than force you to chase down stuff across the net.
Please remember to provide feedback! We are not done yet by any stretch - and your feedback is really driving what we do next.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
S.

I find it upsetting that you can turn out Beta 2 in two weeks and still cant turn beta 1 of nucleo for AE CS4 in 6 months. I thought for sure you guys would make that a priority after beta 1 flow came out.

NP2 is being worked on as we speak. It’s a non-trivial update, and understand your frustration. I would love to put it out sooner - but we need to stick to our process to maintain quality.
Will Update you ASAP of when you can get the patch.

I’ve been watching this for a week and two projects. Observations:
1) Taming the threads-I’ve got some rediculous thread streaching: I made a v.2 of a project file and it pushed it 2 columns over and has a thread dipping waaaay off screen. I can move the name tag but the thread length remains Further, I would expect such a variant to be next to version 1. of the project. Any way to tame these threads?
[Expect some major improvements in this area between now and final release. -S.]
2) Column over-ride: Seeing the connectivity is great but more is required in management. I’d like the ability to move items between columns..in fact I’d also like to name columns too.
[This has been a major feature request - working on it -S.]
3) External back-up/transfers: In addition to scans, I’d just like to know what direction the back-ups go since I push projects to several machines.
[You can set a preference to track copies made of files - including backups -S.]
4) I’m creating image sequences out of a compositor and I’d like to have just the folder/directory tracked rather instead of each files (which makes to visual map redulously tiny…currently it’s no much fun trying to group them.
[Good Feature request - it's in the databse. -S.]
5) I’d like the ability to reveal the file in the visual map from the manager.
[Not sure what you are asking here ... does not right clicking on the node show in Finder / Explorer? -S.]
6) Luv the time tracker. Not sure of the visual logic for tracking (hence my wanting column control) nor why some tracked files/groups missing or not cannot be deleted?
[You can right click on any of the time elements in the map and get specific reports for each. -S.]
Overall, a stunning effort. Looking forward to watch it mature.

It would be cool if you could support Sony Vegas save files, many of us use Vegas for editing the audio to the video. Wile we compose a soundtrack we use a lot of sounds from different drives/locations. It would be great if Flow could track this too.
-it is a great app
[Thanks! Make sure you put your request for Sony Vegas into the forum - it's there that we are monitoring which apps are most requested. -S.]
Testing Flow beta 2 on Vista 64x
March 11th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
I like getting an invite to do a survey, but since I have yet to hear other than that Flow won’t work on 64-bit Vista I haven’t even downloaded it.
Perhaps the system requirements could be posted a bit clearer whether it works on 64-bit or not?

Great stuff from your response, Thanks.
Comments #2:
1) Clarification: I’d like to see a right-click in the management window to simply highlight the original bookmarked node within the visual map itself. It can be difficult to locate amidst all the tracked changes.
2) Folder and filename changes are common for me but flow currently has a bit of trouble handling them. A right-click to either update/relink the “missing” content would be nice. Though, if Flow can generate an alert that a name change can make a file go “missing” this may be the place to locate this feature or display the option to save it as a version of that file.
3) .NET framework: updates from MS for this appear in the critical update category. If it’s a choice between Flow and securit I’ll have to sadly go with security.
Great stuff. Great responses.
