Nucleo Pro 2 CS4 Patch update

Since all the talk is about Flow - I want to make sure Nucleo Pro 2 gets a little attention.

First, here is the info right from the horses mouth, so to speak.

No - we have not cancelled Nucleo Pro 2.

Yes - we are working on CS4 compatibility.

Yes - it will be a free patch to all current NP2 customers - it won’t cost anyone a cent.

When - summer.

I wish I could say sooner - but that’s what we are looking at.  Here is the deal (as I have said in other posts) - It’s not just a simple manner of switching some dials - and presto - compatibility.  Nucleo Pro is actually a very complex piece of software.  If we just crammed it out the door - and things blew up as a result - the thousands of loyal NP2 customers would be pulling out the pitchforks.

Some key underpinnings that NP2 relies on in After Effects have changed between CS3 and CS4.  These can have dramatic consequences in terms of stability and performance.

I also wish I could just throw more people at it.  GridIron has tripled (!) in size since NP2 was shipped in July 2007.  Unfortunately - they are all jammed finishing Flow.  Flow is also a very non-trivial application, and we cannot slack the pace until we are finished.

There you have it.

Not that I want to lose business - but in the meantime - have you tried out the free BG Renderscript from Lloyd Alvarez?  It’s pretty good, and can give you a little of what NP2 did until we finish the patch.

Will post more when I know more….

Thanks for the insight Steve. Looking forward to this summer!

Just a note to people using the Lloyd’s script (or any script for that matter). After Effects suffers from a (cosmetic) bug when using docked script panels. When you Quit AE it will crash when you have any script panels open. Work around: close the panels before Quitting AE.

Note: this crashing does not corrupt any file or project, it is just, well, not so elegant.

Adobe is aware of this and they are working on fixing this.

    Cheers, Joost
